What is the deal with Pokemon? Okay, I mean we could of picked Sailor Moon, Dragon ball Z, etc... Sure they have characters, but Pokemon has 2, well 3 kinds of characters. In Sailor Moon, you've got your basic good guy, and bad guy, but in pokemon you have good guys, bad guys, and then you got 151 (well 161 counting the ones in the Japanese version) different kinds of these creatures or animals, called Pokemon (that's short for Pocket Monsters).

This show is about a 10 year old boy by the name of Ash Ketchum who sets out on a quest. This quest is to become a Pokemon master. He comes from Pallet Town, a small town in the world of Pokemon. But he isn't the only one from Pallet. His rival Gary comes from there too. He acts very cockily towards Ash and everyone else. 

Ash gets Pikachu, who is one of the most well known pokemon of the 161. Along the way, Ash makes some friends who decide to accompany him on his journey. Read on to find out what I mean.

First Ash meets Misty, one of the sisters of the Cerulean City gym. She leaves them because they think that she doesn't add up to them. Ash destroys her bike. She follows him and constantly demands that he buy her a new one. She has a pretty mean temper and isn't shy to use it. She uses water Pokemon and likes to get cute ones, for example Horsea, and Togepi. When Ash gets to Pewter City, he meets the gym leader Brock. Brock wants to become the best Pokemon breeder. He specializes in rock Pokemon. After Ash loses a battle against him, a strange man that looks a lot like Brock, helps Ash find out that Brock has to take care of his brothers and sisters all by himself. Ash beats Brock by setting off the sprinkler system. The stranger reveals that he is Brock's father. He tells us that he went on an unsuccessful Pokemon journey, and that he felt too ashamed to come back. Brock's father offers to take care of Brock's brothers and sisters, and tells Brock to pursue his dream of being a Pokemon breeder. Brock decides to join Ash and Misty.

Not all the characters are good guys. There is team rocket, a group that tries to steal Pokemon. You see, there are three regular members, Jessie, James, and Meowth. Jessie is bossy and mean, but cares about James and Meowth. James comes from a rich family. He dreams of being rich and having many rare pokemon. He likes to dress with style and sometimes even cross dresses! He wants to be important. He cares about Jessie and Meowth, but won't admit it. Then there is Meowth. This is no ordinary Meowth. He is very smart and can talk. He has a fearsome scratch and hates water.

There are other characters like nurse Joy. All the nurses are related and called Joy. They are identical. Then there are Officer Jenny's. They also look alike, sound alike, and are all related. Some other characters are Professor Oak, Mrs. Ketchum, and Gary. You can catch the show on the WB on Saturday mornings (check for local listings.)
